Another dust cover hinge repair documentary

Post by Arumatik49 » 21 Sep 2017 19:04

Here is a repair I did on a Technics SL-Q300 dust cover bracket.

It's your typical broken plastic tab that no glue will hold. Ended up making a new bracket out of aluminum angle stock. It was purchased at a local hardware store (Menards) for around $8. Enough material to probably turn out a dozen brackets with it.

Most of the forming was done using a dremel tool with a grinding disc attached.

Note how I also cut away the plastic tab area for the new aluminum tab to sit in.

Here I have the spring loaded turntable hinge slid onto the new aluminum tab.

Almost looks factory fit. Should have been made that way in the first place.

Hi Arumatik49 ,

Nice job! I'm sure it will hold up better than the OEM configuration.

The hardware store sells the angle stock. I cut it to make the hinge piece.

He made the hinge using aluminium angle stock, it's the name for the metal's shape, not the hinge.

Very cool, Arumatik49... 8) =D> I'm saving this idea in my "Favorites" for whenever I might have to do a repair like this myself...You made the aluminum look seamless, as if it was meant to be there all along! And as I have found out, getting a turntable cheap doesn't always mean the dust cover is in good shape, and that's IF it came with one! http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/no.gif

Great idea!!

I'd have putted a washer or an alluminium rectangle in the inner side to increase the strenght of the job (and...why not... doing the same also on the other side you could use an alluminium rod).

Anyway.... great idea!!
