I've owned both of these, the Pioneer was a step up in pretty much every way. It's the table that made me understand what reviewers meant when they talked about "tempo". There is a quality to its stability that is hard to explain.
The down side to it is that they can be a pain with all the switches and buttons that need to stay clean for it to function properly. Everything seems to be tied into the speed circuit. Mine would still be my every day table had it been more reliable. If you got one that was stored properly and has been serviced, it's a killer table.
The Shure M44 is a solid cartridge, but the 630 deserves better IMO. I ran a bunch of different carts on mine over the years, I'd stay away from real high compliance ones, but anything else did fine.
