Yes but the Verdiers for example still have a spindle holding the platter in place (vertically). They use mangetic levitation to reduce weight on the bearing while the maglev just uses magnetic levitation to excite.

Yes you are right regarding the Verdiers - good point. The Transrotors do not have a spindle to hold the platter in place. Regardless, the wobbly Maglev implementation is quite unnerving.

The Transrotor bearing also effectively has a spindle, with the magnetic spacing also being used to drive the platter

Only on the lower end models with the designation TMD. Only the higher end models with the FMD like the Artus and the Metropolis there is a clear space in between the drive unit and the main platter and no spindle contact, at least on my unit, there isn’t.

So what defines the platter position and prevents wobble?

If there is a MK2. Judging from buyer comments, they seem to be struggling to fulfill the Kickstarter obligations. My own feeling is that there is much hand selection of magnets required. Depending on "full price" sales for cash flow may not cut it.

The original AR turntable of 60? years ago had better - comparable - specs IIRC.

Good point. I didn't realize they were struggling to cope with Kickstarter obligations.

It fails to improve upon simpler solutions that have been around for many years, so it's only purpose can be as a novelty to look at and talk about. The top photo on Mag-lev's website proves this. "Embellished with black crystals from Swarovski". It isn't about music reproduction.

As I've always said...... superficiality is important to sell things.

...and defined the belt drive suspended sub-chassis design that influenced other makers. It cost under $100 when introduced and even counting for inflation was a high value product under pricing several high performance competitors. An AR XA won't cause your pacemaker to go rogue and kill you either.
