JVC AL-A1BK purchased 1987 for $107.01 this included a AT 1001 Cartridge from Circuit City. Currently using AT311EP Cartridge and LP Gear CARBON FIDELITY CFNT4PSE stylus ....Schiit Mani Phono PreAmp. Certainly nothing to brag about ...barely entry level in 1987....but I use it almost every evening...runs OK, but I am definitely looking to upgrade to a better turntable.

Long time lurker, first time poster... just picked up an Ariston RD11 without a tonearm for $250 locally on the 'bay. A friend at work gave me an SME3009 with a Sure V15III. I have to mate the two. The Ariston had a very compact hole on the armboard and I have to open it up. I dread it because the Ariston is near perfect and original. My friend at work had this tonearm and he's a brit and used to use it on a Linn. He wanted it to go on another Linn. When I found the Ariston, he agreed that that would do, as long as it wasn't a German turntable. Did I mention my friend is British? LOL!

Technics SL-Q200 purchased circa 1986 probably from Sam Goody store in NY. I don't think I paid more than $100 for it.

A fully functioning Dual 1214 for $20 CAD without plinth or phono cartridge. Have an abundance of Dual parts to make this baby spin.

Got a Audio Technica AT-LP3 for $45 on Ebay. Needed a stylus so, I put a LP Gear CFN3600le on. Using a ART DJ Prell for a preamp. Nice sounding entry level set up for less than a $100.

New here. Finally got my turntable operational again and was doing some research that led me here. 😁

My one and only TT: MCS 6700. Back in its hayday it was around $250 brand new, right? This beauty was handed down to me by my old man and is in pristine condition (except the dust cover. All in tact, but needs sanded and buffed out). Looking forward to building my collection again.

Table is a Technics SL1300, a gift to me in 1974. I think it was about $300? Fully serviced in 2015, for $175.
Cartridge is a Precept PC440, purchased in 1983 for about $200 (it's replacement, an AT150MLX, should be arriving in a few days).
Preamp is a Tisbury Domino from 2018 that was about $175.

Picked up a Thorens TD160 with Grace 707 / Garrott P77 for $30 last Friday. Yep, $30. Headshell has at some point been broken off the Grace though and someone has glued on an ADC replacement. I have removed the ADC and now have an arm tube with wires sticking out. I plan to attempt fitting a Hadcock headshell and extend the arm wires myself - wish me luck :-)

Hi all
Had lots of turntables ususally belt drive but got hold of a technics sl1800 direct drive for £12 no dust cover, broken arm clip and a stanton headshell plus cartridge. . Spent £15 quid on a new dust cover, fitted new phono leads for £15, plus fitted new arm clip £5 and serviced the beast.
Absolutely the the best deck ever and i have had loads. Total cost £47
Awesome.

This is embarrassing

Thorens TD-150 MKI Swiss-made: $600 (original TP13 arm, Shure M95ED cart, custom dust cover)

Worked just fine, but one feels compelled to upgrade, amiright?

Walnut Plinth: $20 (wood only, homemade)
SME 3009 S2 Improved: $700 (minty)
Corian Armboard: $125
Grado Gold cart: $260
Leather mat: $30
Thorens vintage nameplate: $25

kill me

Totally right you are. Money well spent. If I'd be offered such a 'Swiss' made TD150 MK I for the same money, Lord knows what would be my move... It looks good even though it's a little bit too 'pop' to my taste with the bright red and cornered solid wood DIYed plinth.

[-X No no. Ain't gonna kill ya. Although I am not convinced with those blinky-blink brand badges... If your amplification and speakers are revealing enough to show little improvements, I'd have put that money into an exotic headshell/cartridge wood shim instead.

And while I am at it; in real and direct comparison I have come to realize that those thin alloy swiss cheese headshells do not offer as good rigidity as needed. To stay "vintage" I went for Ortofon SPU 'G' type but the rarer 'M' type might be a better for you if ever.
