I bought my Pioneer PL-X220 record player at "Marktplaats" the dutch Ebay for € 10. And sounds perfect.

Thorens TD 166 Mk II was £110 (now with new belt above!)
Technics SL-160 wit SME arm was £50

Other ones were picked up here and there!

I picked up. Fisher MT-6310 for $25 at a garage sale a few years ago. Just got around to using it. It works good. I don't have a sophisticated ear or a $$ system.

My Dual CS505-3 cost me 100 Danish kroner, around €13 and it was mint. Replaced original worn cartridge with an ortofon om5e for some 30€ then upgraded the stylus to om10 for another 30€ (but sold the om5e stylus for 20€). Had to replace drive and pitch belts, can't remember the price buy they were from thakker. Also had to do several repairs but mostly to solve the "motor won't start" issue, which I believe I've finally nailed. All in all very pleased with it, and won't exchange unless it breaks beyond repair. Need to find a new tonearm locking clip, but would like to have one 3D printed as these parts are becoming increasingly unavailable.

My Thorens TD160 back in 1975 cost around $200 I think. To date I changed the cartridge a few times and replaced the belt once.

My latest (which I always promise to myself is my last) is a Technics SL 1401 from the bay for less than $80.00. It needed a dust cover, feet, and hinges which I traded some stuff for. Head shell and cart, I have bunches of those. Best deal ever.

Had some decks like a Rega P25 and Michell Gyrodec SE, nice Benz cartridges, etc as a younger single guy, but then was without a turntable for many years due to some moves and other priorities.

Picked up a long neglected and very dirty Garrard SL95B at an estate sale about five years ago for $25, and recently pulled it out of storage, cleaned and rehabilitated it.

I think I like putting the effort into restoring these "barn find" gems and coaxing great sound from them just a bit better than buying something perfect out of the box 8) ...and to be honest, I can't tell a significant difference as compared to those I've had before. Of course that's probably due to my 50 year old ears, but hey that offers me a great discount

I did like watching those spinning gold Michell weights though :)
