Adapt a Panasonic SL-HM42 and other thing

Post by carlos_123 » 10 Aug 2014 02:10

Hi buddies! It´s my first post!
I have a SL-HM42 turntable, it was connected to a SA-HM32 system. Now I sold it  and I want to use the turntable with a 12V adapter and two RCA cables :) (the flex haves six cables). I tried all the combinations so far, and I discovered that my adapter was ruined #-o . What is the cable order, so I can do it right (please look at the picture)? Using the dead adapter, I ruined my turntable? :(
The other thing: Would a Audio-Technica AT29e (Universal Replacement Catridge) fit in my turntable? It will improve the sound?
Thanks in advance!!

Does not take any cartridge but the one it was fitted with. No others.

Is there a way to adapt this to work from USB?

Easy and affordable answer, no. Take the money you earned from the stereo sale and go find something better at a local used shop/thrift store/OpShop/local classified ad like Gumtree. If USB is necessary, buy a USB preamp. If not, just find a decent used table.

We have found quite a few decent turntables here for people and they didn't cost a fortune, either...If we knew generally where you lived, maybe we could recommend something local in your area? :-k

What have you got to lose? :D

Suffice it to say, I have an old Panasonic myself ( a gift from my late uncle) and there's really nothing you can do with it...It's not very modifiable...You can keep it for the garbage 45's, but for the good records, you'll need something more durable with an interchangeable and removable headshell and cartridge...Until you get to a certain level in quality, there are some turntables that are just not worth throwing a ton of money at...If you're doing it for fun, it's one thing...But if you're looking for a better turntable, they ARE out there, and like I said, DON'T have to cost a fortune!

I have 33 of the things and the only ones I paid full price for were a Sony and Crosley that don't get used...My best and/or favorite turntables have been $50 or less...They needed some work, yes, but because of the build quality and good reviews, worth it, even if you have to have someone else do the work (which I could probably recommend someone there, too...)...Just a few thoughts for you to consider... :-k
