TIP:Turntable Dustcover Hinge repair for Linn NAD Logic TEAC

Post by alternativeroute » 19 Sep 2013 14:55

I came across this one on a local forum and thought I would share it here. Perhaps someone has posted something like this before :?:

I have found the same hinges on the following turntables:
Linn LP12
Linn Axis
Logic DM101
NAD 5020
TEAC PX-300
TEAC PX-500

I am sure there are others that use the same hinges...

If you have come across a few turntables then you will have come across this situation before with these hinges.

I am using some 2.4mm brass rod to make a 'repair pin'

Before you start on the repair make sure the spring is unclipped off the metal end. With out doing that you will battle against the spring...

First drill a hole for the pin. I drilled a 2.5mm hole for my 2.4mm pin.

Then push the pin through making sure to 'latch' the spring end...

To fill the gap left in the broken plastic I use a product called 'Q-bond'.

Q-bond comes as a filler powder and then the glue. In order to have the powder rest on something I cut a small piece of paper and put it behind the broken plastic.

The white in the photograph is the paper...

I then add the powder. After the powder you drip on the glue as per the Q-bond instructions...

And there you have it. Repair done.

The last part is to reattach the spring onto the metal clip part of the hinge. I find it easy to manoeuvre and push it into the clip using a flat screwdriver...
