Dead simple - Luxman L-410 integrated amp, Luxman PD-284 turntable mounted with Ortofon 2M Red, and a pair of Technics SB-7000 speakers - and excellent sound, but scuppered by a lack of space (welcome to Japan!)...

Great little vintage system there. I always wondered how those Technics SB-7000 speakers sounded. So... How do they sound?

Thanks, Chopsrr!

As for the Technics SB-7000s (or the "Technics 7"s as they're also known), I'd describe the sound with words like "rich", "warm", "full" and "deep". They have amazing presence, particularly in the low ranges thanks to those huge woofers, and whenever I've cross-auditioned other speakers since owning these I've always been disappointed with the competition.

I got these for 10,000yen (about $100), and if you see any for sale at that sort of price or even a bit higher, I'd say don't hesitate!

Rolleye, I'd be afraid to move in a room that crowded just because of the TT in front, but it still looks sweet! :D

OMG - Compared to other VE members I think I'm really quite tidy and minimal in my set-up. I think the Scandinavian way of life has began to set hold. :?

They look mighty fine, but you guys might want to pull those speakers out from the wall some. Let 'em breathe!

Wish I could. Someday when the kids are grown, and some stands too!

Sounds mighty fine even with rear ports, room treatments help.

Nice system, SammyMac. I notice you have one pair of speakers stacked on top of another - I'm currently in the same situation but I only use the top speakers (bookshelf style like yours), so the floorstanding speakers are just acting as "stands"! This seems to produce good results... anyone care to venture any reason NOT to be doing this?
