Ariston RD-80 Sub-platter Diameter, Belt

Post by Alec124c41 » 29 Jul 2008 15:07

I bought an RD-80 on eBay that has speed issues: it was running about 10% too fast!
The motor is AC synchronous, so should be at correct speed.
The pulley is the correct 17.9 mm diameter for 60 cycles.
That leaves the sub-platter. Mine has a diameter of 164 mm, which I have padded out to 174 mm to get the correct speed.
What diameter does anyone else have on their RD-80?
Also, mine came with a 2 mm square belt. shifting to a flat belt cuts speed a bit. What belt should I be using?
The TT sounds great, so it is worth some effort.
Thanks,
Alec

Hi,
The sub platter dia on my turntable measures 164.448mm.The measured value you had mentioned indicates the sub platter is original. The belt thickness will have an impact on speed. The belt I have is 0.78mm thick

Thanks. I'll get a flat belt, but I think It will still need some correction, but less than I have now.
How is yours coming along?

Does anyone know the subplatter diameter for the RD60 ? This is the subplatter where the main platter is integrated to it (both are just one piece) and it has 3 approx 1 inch diameter holes on the platter to be able to reach under & adjust the suspension strings.

Thanks
