Is a turntable weight bad for a belt drive TT?

Wondering if an 8 oz weight placed over the spindle is not so good for a belt drive turntable with a suspension system? A Systemdek IIX for instance... I would think that if it is OK, you would have to adjust the 3 point bolt/spring suspension to reset platter height...

Should be Ok but you have to adjust the suspension to accomodate the weight. It's not about belt or direct drive, it's about suspension because the suspension is made for a certain weight so it won't perform optimally when weight changes. For turntables with suspension, I would recommend going for a record clamp instead since they weight close to nothing. :) Belt drives with speed control and feedback loop can handle a little extra weight without problem.

thats 224g + LP. no its not a good idea. the Systemdek suspension was not built for it and you will be hard pushed to have enough adjustment in the suspension to accommodate the extra weight, never mid the undue load stretching the springs prematurely.

Do look at the wear on your bearing too!

Though the answers would be unfavorable. I will not bother with weight or clamp. Thanks for the info.
