Technics SP-10 (MK1)-What's it worth on the used market?

Post by harrion » 17 Jan 2020 22:09

Hope this is appropriate thread for this forum. I couldn't locate another place on the site. Anyway, here goes. I have a Technics SP-10 MK1 with Rabco SL-8E arm I want to sell (locally only, I live in Santa Fe, NM). I can't find any for sale on the Web, and I know the later versions go for a lot more, so they're not really a benchmark. Wonder if anyone might, at least, shoot me a ballpark figure. I'm including a few pics for your perusal. It's fully functional and in great cosmetic shape. BTW, I know there is a place for sales on this site, but I'm really not trying to sell it through this thread here, just trying to get an idea of what I might sell it for. Any opinions appreciated.

Check eBay and search for that model and then go to advanced search and select "completed auctions."
That should give you an idea of it's value.

Thanks, I did do that, and could not find any comparable tables.

You have an SP-10 and a Rabco arm. Both have value.
I paid $750 for an SP-10 with an SME 3009 II S2 Improved, some years ago. I think the turntable should be worth that, by itself.
Search each item separately.

Cheers,
Alec

3009s alone are going for $750 average.

Don't give it away, since the value of vintage audio is high. In Canada a Thorens TD 145 averages about $750, while it is nowhere near the (technical) build of the Technics.

Most other companies like JVC-Victor, Sony, Pioneer etc. had there own pro models as well, and with speed controls and options that made them more desirable, but they won't be cheap. The very lowest you might fetch a bare motor unit for (without plinth and arm) would be $250 CDN.

Thanks for the input. So far, here's some pertinent offerings on ebay. SP-10 for sale with plinth like mine and Infinity Black Widow tonearm (I think, currently sold for alone for $500 on ebay) and dust cover, for $1000 or Best Offer. Another sale, turntable alone (no plinth, arm) for $550 or best offer. An SP-10 turntable alone sold at auction in November for $108 (seems crazy low). Rabco SL-8E from Germany sold for around $300 in December. One is currently for sale at $795 or best offer. What do you think?

The SP-10 was the world's first direct drive turntable, which certainly gives it distinction.
