It's a KD-550 tonearm. The 500 didn't come with a tonearm. Other than the service manual on here there is nothing much about it online other than a few arguments over whether it is any good. These tend to fall into the category of Rega owners saying its rubbish having not heard it vs people who have one being quite happy with them.

I was given my Father's KD550 a few years ago and I am very impressed with the arm. What do you need to find out about it?

I see, in the Database, that the 650 arm looks very similar, but is longer than the 550 arm.
Put a headshell with cartridge on it, mis-slots, and measure the pivot to stylus distance, to determine which length you have.
If this effective length is approximately 239mm, you have the 550 arm, and spindle to pivot mounting distance is 222mm.
If this length is approximately 245mm, you have the 650 arm, and the mounting distance is 230mm.

Cheers,
Alec

If you use a two point protractor there is no need to know the pivot to stylus distance.

JoeE SP9, I think he has to mount the tonearm first.

Cheers,

That's def a KD-550 arm, so effective length is 237mm and overhang 15mm giving P-S as 222mm
