Thoughts on Technics SL-D4 linear tracking table?

Post by cat9 » 08 Dec 2019 07:25

I am considering purchasing for a friend (just inherited her dads records) this table.
Immaculate condition....fully serviced....NOS Technics P511S cart and stylus along with a spare NOS Audio Technica P-Mount cart and stylus.

She has a small space so the footprint of this table is right.

For an occasional use table to play her dads old records, this unit an ok choice?

Thoughts appreciated?

....purchase price is $90

These Technics DD liniar trackers are considered good value and are well built and perform well.

I have one that I picked up at garage sale a few years ago. Beautiful small format table, but the playback is spot on. Much heavier and sturdy than one would initially think. I have an early Grado M+ on mine and it sounds great. Usual check of the sled drive belt and a drop of oil, and possibly new stylus if suspect. Then simply enjoy this very sophisticated way to play records. 8)

Well, full service, spare stylus included=no brainer....buy it! Don't be put off by it's compact size, which was done primarily to compete with the compact CD players appearing at the same time. It is not a toy...Technics quality and reliability. Enjoy!

Thx All .... I go see/audition Tuesday morning.

If all checks out (and I don't see why not) I will grab this for Sarah.

She'll be excited to be able to spin her dad's record collection!

+1

Perfect tt for the application. As PnP for a turntable as you can get.

You may have created a new vinyl enthusiast =D> =D> =D>

I couldn't get through this w/o getting wispy / choking up a bit:

Good luck

I think so .... she certainly knows my passion for music (vinyl) and gear

I bought her a nice vintage Yamaha receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers to get her going....she initially thought she had a table from her dad too but when I took a look at it there was nothing to salvage....

Thus my hunt to get her a table too.....and that led me to this SL-D4

Thx for the assistance!

...a bit of a delay - life happens!

Everything is in place and up and running.

She loves it and is enjoying spinning her dad's records.

Thats a really nice TT for the money you paid!!

I have a 1981 Technics SL7, its mint and it sounds amazing, the build quality and engineering inside it is a complete joy to behold and I love mine, it has some minor issues but nothing that a little fettling cant sort.....for nearly 40 years old, these things are amazing!
