Technics sl-1600 or sl-1700 are top quality machines, direct drive with conventional tone arm and soft touch buttons on the outside front of the dust cover. Expect to replace the cueing belts (easy job).
The 1600 MkII and 1700 MKII have the outside controls, the straight 1600 & 1700 are inside the cover.
Quite right the 1600 and 1700 are very different turntables to the MK2s. I of course meant 1600 MK2 and 1700 MK2.

A few of the B&O tables have external controls. Mitsubishi as well.

There's a LAB-440 on eBay right now for $100 shipped. Very tempting.

Great price if it's working well, and it's packed and shipped properly.

The seller accepts 14 day returns.

It's direct drive, so I don't have to worry about a belt. Just a new stylus and I can test it out.

I picked up a Realistic RD-8100 direct drive turntable which was made for them by Hitachi. I was very impressed with the quality and performance. For $100 that sounds like a good deal on the Lab-440.

So am I!

Can anyone tell from this photo what cartridge is on the thing? I asked the seller to send me a close-up front and side shot of the cartridge before they pack it up. But until then, this is all I have:

It looks like a Realistic/Shure R47EDT. Basically a Shure M75ED.

Congrats! I hope they pack it well. Platter, tonearm counter-weight, headshell should all be removed and packed separately. Tonearm needs to be secured.

The eBay auction has a guaranteed delivery date of Tuesday. It is now Friday night at 9:05 PM EST and the seller has not shipped the turntable or responded to any of my emails. I don't believe I will be getting it on Tuesday, since the auction says it will be shipped USPS First Class Mail.

I REALLY like the look of this table. The wood (probably veneer if it's from the 80s) plinth looks gorgeous.

I like the fact that you can set the record size. Will it make it easier if I ever get one of those new 45 RPM albums that are suddenly all the rage with audiophiles.

Pretty new seller from what I saw. Better that if he/she needs the weekend to pack it properly it's better to get it a day or two later. I think some sellers are not that aware of the delivery commitments they have made.
