Beogram 2000/3000 repair

Post by vanakaru » 12 Nov 2019 07:52

This is type 5244 made in 1976 using SP cartridges.
I got the service manual and would know how to adjust things but I have no clue what to adjust according to the problem I have. I wonder if there is somebody here who knows this table?
Main problem is that I can not cue up while the tonearm is tracking. Pressing the LIFT button does no to a thing. Some times starting the cycle is erratic too - usually I need to hold the LIFT until the arm starts moving.
I know there is a wire rod coming from the button that twists the bended end to engage some levers at the cam wheel. What to look for?

OK I think I found the answer. You need to bend this loop on the end of the rod(with ? mark on the picture) more open - not much, just a mm.

Hi vankaru,

I'm glad that you got it sorted! We need to keep these Beograms spinning!

Here is mine spinning a 14" Pathe:

It is still a work in progress as I'm still working out the speed switches and controls. Of coarse it still does Lps and 45s.

I had Beogram 1000 some time ago but its speed control was really wobbly, so I got rid of it. However I liked the sound of SP cartridge and this funky arm. Now I found this with SP10, plus Beomaster 1200 with Beovox 1702 rather cheap. I have been listening records on it two days now and I like it again. Nice range, good velvety bass and crisp highs. SP12 stylus is lovely too.
For me the aesthetics/design of B&O has been of interest for ages. In 1980's I was never able to afford any of these.

Wow! I would have put some effort into the Beogram 1000 as I also like the looks of it and it plays fast spinning records with no mods.

Actually I did put some effort into it. I disassembled the speed not working control/idler, cleaned and put together and it worked. This is really over-engineered part - too many functions put into one with too many small parts to interact properly. When it started to act up again - you had to find a "spot" on the dial where it worked and I was afraid to touch the dial- I was not going to go through the process again. But selling it came out to be sad event anyway.
I think I am happier with 2000 now. But I admit 1000 had very attractive 60's classic look.
