Connoisseur BD1

Post by sjw+123 » 09 Nov 2019 17:14

Hi all,
I am in the process of finishing a BD1 'Connoisseur' turntable C1968.
It is all but complete, although struggling to source a lid.
I have sorted the usual motor suspension issues, but find on running for an hour or so
the motor develops a rhythmical clicking sound. On then stopping it will not spin on restart.
Is this to do with the clutch mechanism? and is it best removed?
Apologies if this topic has been covered before,if so please guide me to relevant link.
Thanks,Stephen.

Sugden was a pretty canny designer, and if he put a clutch in there, it probably does something important. That said, if it can be removed with everything otherwise working, it would be a useful reversible experiment to see if it is the cause of the clicking.

Is it possible that as the motor runs, the lubrication gets thinner and allows some wobbling? I'd try a heavier oil and see if that changes anything.
