Empire 208 value?

Post by Walkergetx » 25 Aug 2019 17:42

Hi All,
My parents have had an HH Scott system and an empire 208 turntable for as long as I can remember. My parents have now both passed and there is a man who has been asking about the stereo for some time now. He quickly made an offer of 4-500 dollars, so I decided to look into the values.

I can’t seem to find much on this turntable, except a couple on eBay for $2600 or $4600 dollars and the higher one doesn’t even have an arm. The one I now have works, and other than a little cleaning, appears mint.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Those were very highly regarded back in the 60's. I had no idea folks were asking so much. I don't think they are worth thousands, maybe hundreds. If you look at the sold listings, you'll see none went for more than hundreds. If yours is good, you should be able to get hundreds. Good luck.

Hello and welcome to VE!

If you're basing the turntable price on the two eBay auctions - don't. Those prices a ludicrously high. A look at recent sales of the 208 on eBay show that they usually sell for $400 to $500 dollars. I recently sold my 398 for $400 and it was in pristine condition.

Out of curiosity, what model HH Scott are we talking about here? Knowing that would greatly help us to help you with its value.

HI Fi shark is a good stear for pricing. It has sold prices across a wide range of markets. I reckon between 750 to 1000. Guy sounds like a dealer who will flip it.

If you can get hundreds, go for it. I think that's optimistic. Their later models were even better.
