Akai AP004

Post by stevensanj » 24 Aug 2019 00:02

Hi all

I recently came by an Akai AP004 with a burnt out motor. It's really cooked, with connections fallen apart and seized. I've takem it into a couple of places with the same story, I'll never get hold of a new motor. I don't want to give up on it though, that tone arm movement is beautiful, and I want to see it working. Anyone able to give me any leads to follow with regards to getting a new motor, or having this one reconditioned?

Cheers

Steve

Obvious ones are ebay, hifishark, and typing in google akai ap004 motor until something pops up.

I am pretty sure you could find another manufacturer/turntable using the same type of motor. Do you have any pics of the motor? Info is scarce for this model.

Can't find anything on ebay, but I'd not heard of hifishark til now so I'll give that a go cheers. I'll take a pic when I'm home from work next week. They seem to be as rare as hen's teeth, but I'm sure eventually I'll get there.

Haha, you'd think so. There are a couple of decent repairers but nothing that in depth, might have to go into Sydney.
