Technics SL-5 Auto Return Picking Up Tone Arm Too Soon.

Post by Alex_Swiatk » 21 Jul 2019 04:46

I have a Technics SL-5 and the auto return is picking up the tone arm before the LP is finished. It's only on records where the last song(s) are really close to the label. Additionally, if I move the tone arm back to near the last song, it will play it the whole way through. Is there a way I can adjust this? I've looked at the service manuals and it only showed how to adjust where it puts down the tone arm. The turn table has been working perfectly except for this one issue. Any help on solving this is greatly appreciated. Also, first time posting on VE so I hope I'm doing this right and sorry if I am a little slow.

A big issue with many automatics, not just Technics linears. I have such records marked "Manual play only".

This topic w/ J2064 quoted solution and included link w/ Shoji's comment should take care of the problem.

Okay, so adjust the tonearm offset angle and servo gain and offset voltage?

Seems like adjusting tonearm offset angle fixed the issue. Just played both sides of a record that always picked up early and now both the sides played all the way through as they should. Thanks for the help, Fred!
