...Where do youse guys get the idea of "no weight" with this toy? It's a gimmick - who cares.
I think they are trying to say is that the weight of the device isn't on the playing surface, the cart is suspended and held above the record. The analogy is that on a traditional turntable the weight of the tonearm presses against the record. When the cart is suspended, it's only the cantilever touching the record. Like much marketing, it doesn't bear up to close examination, but when has that stopped them. At least I'm reassured that it has audiophile quality!

The only TT that places no weight on the groove is the ELP laser TT. It uses a laser to track the groove and retrieve the signal from an LP.

A turntable without a needle is not a turntable!

I wonder how much effect a dirty record will have on the reproduction.

You can buy TT's with no tonearm. Does that make them something other than a TT?
Yes, a very expensive pottery stand :D

I was just poking a bit. I think that playing a vinyl with a laser is a bit...I don't mind those kind of turntables, but I would probably just buy one of those improved cds, forgot how are they called.

Apologies to all industrial designers, but turntables should be built by engineers, and then "stylized" by designers if needed, not the other way around.

I checked his work, he likes bright colours and curves, that is mostly it.

The result is what is shown here.

The weight of the tonearm hasn't been resting on records since the LP was introduced. Tonearms are counterbalanced, with a weight or a spring or some other device. Whatever tracking force the cartridge is adjusted to is the only weight resting on the record, and that is true of this Love turntable also (which just has a standard AT cartridge like many other tables of conventional sorts).
With 78s, the groove was horizontal, and the force pressing down was pretty immaterial, as long as it was enough to keep the needle from jumping out of the groove, so the whole arm's weight could rest on the record.

If they put the guts from one of those inside a shell that looked like let's say, a VW camper van which drove round and round the LP while playing the record, they might have something.

At least then the name might make some sort of sense.

Just like this: http://recordrunner.jp/en/ - it even has an AT cartridge!

I wonder what they mean by “The World’s First Intelligent Turntable?”
