Meanwhile, it looks like the Wheel turntable still has not condensed out of the Kickstarter vapor…

Strictly speaking, the cartridge on the end of the tonearm is where the "needle" is. You can buy TT's with no tonearm. Does that make them something other than a TT?

The ELP TT turns an LP on top of a flat surface. Why is it not a TT?

ELP used to include a vacuum RCM as part of the purchase price.
"Uncompressed, Non-Digitized, Pure Analog Audio & No Physical Contact"

Is that code for dull and no fun?
The answer to that is a big fat no! :-k
Why are you trying to read more than is there?
I love tech and I welcome all new innovations which this 'turntable' appears to be. However, athestically it looks plain dull. Just a personal opinion, nothing personal.

The ELP TT was Originally the Finial TT. It debuted at the 1984 CES. So, it's not new tech. I only mentioned it as I think posters should be aware of what's actually out there. Its always reminded me of a Laserdisc player. How It's Made (Science Channel) did a segment on it. They also did a segment on the MBL Radialstrahler loudspeaker.

If your LP's are super clean and in mint condition it can and does sound very good. Unfortunately it's not very tolerant of the slightest bit of debris on an LP. However, it does track broken LP's that have been taped together.

Agreed. It should be a Fisher Price product. Didn't know about the Soundwagon. I google it. Very cute.

Fisher Price? Oh please! That's just spiteful and doesn't really apply. Have you ever heard one? I think not. I have and was quite impressed. Kramer might not like the looks (neither do I) but no one can discount its performance. It's very solidly built. The remote doesn't hurt either.

Consider these properties. No inner groove distortion, no skating distortion and no record wear. Please name any other device that offers those plusses?

How can you not like something that produces measurably better performance? Liking something doesn't mean I'd buy one. The Bugatti Veyron is a perfect example. I like the car but not its looks. Regardless of my finances I'd never buy one.

How does it eliminate record wear and in what respect is the performance measurably better? It looks to me like a linear tracker that spins the tonearm instead of the record.

I'm talking about the ELP TT. That POS Soundwagon TT is IMO not worth considering.

Why buy the ELP Laser turntable unless you are a specialist archive facility? There's no USA service facility. If it requires repair or realignment of the laser, it must be sent back to Japan. It doesn't play colored vinyl or discs cut at extremely loud levels, and needs machine cleaning, and declicking for acceptable sound. If you're dealing with rare recordings which can't be played to get a transfer, are cracked, or otherwise can't be played on a regular arm, then consider owning one.

How many are in use, and how many were sold?

Apparently, none and none. Seems the units are not in production, yet, and the fine details are still to be finalized, at least according to this thread from an aptly named Reddit group.

There also seem to be questions about money management and about their ability to deliver on the electronic design.

I hope JaS doesn't mind me posting this link but it makes for some interesting reading. At least the Crosleys are being delivered and work, however badly, for a couple of months.

This in particular I find quite funny: "Chasing your dreams is always a difficult journey but we’re still at it! ".

Pleasant looking, albeit a bit nutty. Is she demonstrating the device's isolation properties?

As with the Wheel, I am skeptical about the Love’s ability to actually play a record. I can find no information about how the stylus tracks the groove. There is a video of the device spinning around to Daft Punk, but it’s not clear to me that it’s actually playing a record.

I have my doubts as well. I'm just being curious.
