Hitachi HT-20s or Dual CS-2110

Post by northcountrygirl » 25 Jun 2019 00:42

Hi, I have a choice between two used turntable: A Hitachi HT-20s (needs new belt) or a Dual CS-2110 (need stylus).
What would you say is the best one?
Thanks

There were both given to me free. I was just wondering if it's worth fixing one of them...

The specs for the Hitachi are better than for the Dual. Speed accuracy for the Hitachi is 0.05%, Dual is 0.06-0.09%. The Hitachi is quieter, -70 dB DIN B, vs -66 dB DIN B for the Dual. I own 2 Hitachi tables and they are excellent tables. Both are 1977 vintage, the Hitachi HT-463 and HT-460, Direct Drive full autos. The arms, motors, speed control, quietness, isolation, platter machining, spindle bearings and inner machinework are first rate.

So, based on all those things, I’d go for the Hitachi.

On the other hand? , it might be easier to find a replacement stylus for the Dual rather than a new belt for the Hitachi ...

for instance ... https://www.lpgear.com/product/DUALSTCS2110.html

You’ve got to be kidding! Belts are far easier and cheaper to find than good styli! Just because you see a stylus from LPG, TTN, VOM, eBay, Jico, doesn’t mean it’s a good one! I have 4 vintage belt drive tables, 4 cassette decks...correct belts are available all over the place!!

Don’t let the belt issue OR cartridge issue be your deciding factor! You can ALWAYS change cartridges, too! But you can’t change belt sizes.

I have 9 tables. Over 60 vintage carts. Both belts and cartridges (world class carts) are plentiful!

My first turntable was a Hitachi HT-20s and I must say that deck never failed me- I would go for the Hitachi.
