Numark TT200 S shaped tonearm

Post by erickc1 » 22 May 2019 03:19

I recently purchased a used Numark TT200 so that I could play 78 rpm records since my Thorens TD-160 doesn’t have that capability. The Numark came with a straight tonearm only, even though it comes with straight and S shaped when new. An S shaped tonearm will have better fidelity and track better with less error/distortion. I cannot find an S shaped tonearm for this deck anywhere. Any suggestions? Numark doesn’t make this anymore/it’s discontinued. eBay, Amazon, Craigslist I have checked and I have Googled extensively only to find many sites saying it’s no longer available. Please help

Cheers,
Erick C.

They are getting hard to find, but they do come up on eBay from time to time. You can set eBay to send you a notification when one is listed.

For what it's worth, the straight arm can actually perform quite well for 78s, and some people even like them for LPs, although that subject is not without some controversy. Read more here: https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php ... se.662119/

Majority of 78 carts / styli are conical tip, so you could indeed use the straight arm.
