SL-1200GR power supply

Post by ohlins » 23 Mar 2018 09:24

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a GR from Japan. According to Jap specs, the power supply is specified as 100 volts while the UK model is marked as 110 - 240 volts. The US specs indicated 120 volts.

But since the GR is using a switch mode PS, it should be auto ranging. However, I'm unable to confirm this part. I was thinking the likelihood of having different versions of SMPS to be low.

So what's your views on using the JDM in other countries with 220-240 volts?

If it says on the box 100 volts I wouldn't do it. If it says on the box 100-240V I would do it. Assuming JDM means Japanese domestic model then if it were me because of the uncertainty I would only make the purchase from a supplier that accepts returns.

Thanks for your inputs ....

Unfortunately the service manual is not out yet; if not, can check the part number to verify ....

A friend just bought one from Japan. If he's willing to let me open it up, I will be able to shed some light on this issue ...

To be safe, just get a 240V to 100V step down transformer. The 1200 does not draw much power, so 50W unit should be more than adequate.

Japanese model is not 240V compatible without a stepdown transformer. 100 V only. Want multi-Voltage it will have to be a European model usually. US model is 120 V only.
