The Transcriber

Post by Bencaissie123 » 27 Sep 2019 15:08

Hi there
I was wondering if you could help me with something?
I acquired a The Transcriber by the Transcriptors but it’s missing all the posts where the record sits...
I was planning on going to a machine shop to get them done but was wondering if somebody was selling them?
Thanks a lot in advance
Cheers
Ben

Wow.
And wow.
Having expressed my awe at your finding one of these things, I now must turn to practical considerations. Does the turntable work? If it doesn't, any success finding posts will be for naught. But my memory (unclear because of drooling) is that the platter is similar to other Transcriptors, with fluted top metal cylinders with rubber inserts. If my memory is correct, you might be able to find another Transcriptor and cannibalize it. For a Transcriber, it would not be a desecration, but please, don't toss the other parts. True believers want them.

Everything works great
My friend who is giving it to me said he just lost them after moving a few years back..
I really think I will machined them with another good friend of mine;-)
Now I’m wondering about the kind of metal these things are made of?
I was thinking of making them aluminum
Is it gonna be too light?
Anyway, will have lots of fun working on it!

I found this on another site: "For parts support, J.A. Michell in England is your best source for Transcriptors parts, support, and service."

The theturntableshop.com in Vancouver has a Transcriptor table in their collection and it may be a good place to inquire.

Just came across this post. I have a Transcriber, all original. Purchased in the 70's, still playing like it always has. If you need specifics on anything, let me know.

Hi
That’s very kind of you.
I will make the pucks myself in aluminum and have the specs for that:-)
The only thing I am struggling with is to find ultra fine wires for to link the cartridge
Fine enough so that it can freely move
Is it clear? I hope
If there is a way you could send me a picture of your headshell it would probably help me.
Thanks in advance
Ben

The wires your looking for can be searched for by looking for "internal tonearm wire or rewiring tonearm"

Lots of reasonable cost to high cost wire available.
