Can i get this out without unsoldering?

Postby blossombone » 19 Jun 2017 15:26

Hi all
I want to try my sme 3009 on my td 160.

Is there a way to remove this whole white wiring terminal without unsoldering it?
I would like to probably put everything back as it was and want to keep it as original as possible

Thanks

No, unless you dismantle the whole wires and capacitors assembly thing and buy (50$) or make DIY (15$) a PCB to run the motor and rest your original system aside. Which if you can afford it, is all for the better and cleaner alike.

this is the terminal for the tonearm, not for the switch and power supply
it seems i will have to unsolder it?

Oh OK, I thought there were interconnected. Still but it's plastic ! How is it soldered to the chassis then ? Is it not simply clipped or screwed ?

No it has some kind of plastic tab. I dont want to break it. There are no screws. I was hoping somebody had a trick for getting it.out without unsoldering. I want to.keep everything as original as possible

OK, now I get it. See the 2 points where it's screwed/pushed up onto to your chassis ?

Looking at your picture, they are top left and right of the white plastic mount, on the under side of the chassis you have two inner kinda bent beveled "cuts" into which screws or pushed in "mushrooms" hold the white plastic mount to the underside of the chassis.

Your problem is that they were screwed or pushed in just before the alloy top plate was glued on the top side of your chassis... To undo it from "below" is barely impossible.

I believe that to unsolder those wires is the cleanest thing you could do to remove the tonearm without damaging permanently any other parts.

Ok, good news ! So it's a "pushed-clipped-on" system as 'medwaybeat's' picture shows. That will indeed require some patient and soft handling and waggling...
