TD 145 cartridge alignment

Post by nolanjaco » 23 Jan 2020 03:27

i have a thorens td 145 and have a at95e cartridge on it. I tried aligning it used one of the thorens arc protractors on vinyl engine and it’s pretty much impossible for all of it to be aligned perfect. i’ve tried playing a couple of records and the noise sounds fine even though according to the protractor it isn’t fully aligned. is this an issue? will it damage my vinyl? is there any way to fix this? thanks

Is it tp16 mk1 arm, and I'm assuming you used the Thorens baerwald arc protracted printed off to the correct scale? If all this is correct it should be fine as I used to have one fitted

Yes that is the tone arm i have. The cartridge needle hits fine on the first point then get farther and farther away the more in. at the very inside it is about maybe half a centimeter off the point. I have the cartridge pushed all the way foreword

So the arc protractor is the bottom one on this page https://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge-a ... tors.shtml printed off in portrait format measuring exactly 140mm across and 200mm vertically at the measuring points. This needs to be exact, and bar this possibly being the culprit without seeing the unit it's hard to say what's wrong.

The radius of the arc is what you are working with. The farther forward your cartridge, the more open the arc.
You might have the cartridge too far forward.

Cheers,
Alec
