TD126 Cover/hinge... can't tighten

Post by terzinator » 20 Jan 2020 15:34

Anyone with any experience with these hinges? They're really loosey-goosey, so the left hinge always comes out of its moorings, and the cover can't open/close properly. I can snap it back in, but it's short-term joy.

Left hinge (out of place):

Right hinge (in place):

I know there are thumbscrews below/behind the cover housing to supposedly tighten things, but good luck trying to turn them. I wonder if I could make some kind of socket to fit around that thumbscrew thing to turn it.

Any insight?

has anyone abandoned the stock hinged cover for a fixed acrylic one on these?

Simple is better sometimes.

It looks to me like the hinges aren't screwed into the plinth properly. With them done up you'll find that the clear back panel will fit snug into the hinges and the main part of the lid will remain in place.

I'm inclined to agree, but where are these screws?

If I look between the base/armboard and plinth, I can see what looks like a nut, but the screw/bolt would be hidden by the lid's black hinge cover. (No idea what this actually is called.)

It's definitely loose, but does that black cover come off to reveal a screw/bolt head to tighten the hinge?

Got it.

Black cover snaps on/off to reveal screws. (And to allow better access to thumbscrew!) THANK YOU.
