Thorens td160 super won't play 45 rpm (video)

Post by ikon_1497 » 10 Oct 2019 13:47

Hi everybody.

My td160 super suddenly stopped playing at 45 rpm.
I turned the platter upside down and I saw this...

-I tilted the pulley using the small screw and it does the trick BUT only without the platter....
- the thing that lifts the belt won't go any higher

How can I fix this?

Thanks!

Clean everything (pulley, belt, rim of inner platter) vigorously with alcohol. Once everything is super clean... clean it once more. This usuallly does the trick.

Hi,
if cleaning will not fix your problem, try a new belt...
Same problem: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=111348

Yeah, that is not an uncommon problem..... even with a new belt.
Even a new belt will pick up crap from a less than clean pulley..... and inner platter.

So, it is imperative to always clean everything when cleaning. ...even the belt .

BTW, I use isopropyl alcohol to clean the pulley and inner platter .
For the belt I use a cotton " make up round" that is moistened with water and a drop of dish washing liquid.
I fold the round over the belt and gently pull the belt through it a few times . You will be surprised about the crap it removes.

IMO, sometimes a new belt is installed when all that is needed is to clean the old one. :)

BTW, be careful when adjusting the motor pulley azimuth as you can possibly do more harm then good in the end .

OK guys! It worked!
I cleaned everything (belt included) and now it's ok!
Didn't know it was that simple...
Thanks!
