thorens td 165 question

Post by ccisnado » 28 Sep 2019 19:38

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here, i will gladly appreciate your help, there is a listing for a thorens td 165 mk 2 turntable, the person says it works well and that it might only need some oil and a new belt, also that it comes with an Audio Technica AT13Ea cartridge , i was wondering for how much these turntables go for normally, and sorry but i dont know much about turntables , what is the black plastic thing next to the tone arm? i dont see other turntables of this model with that. thanks a lot for your help. i attached some images.

What you have there is a q up. A device that lift your tonearm at the end of the record :

For the value look at ebay: both what is asked and what is actually paid. I would say 150-200. Audio Technica AT13Ea is not too valuable(~30) by itself.

This has the potential of being a great little turntable for you.
The AT13Ea is a good match for the arm and with a new stylus, belt and servicing, you will have a turntable that will be hard to beat for under $500.

If you can pick it up for under $200 you should be OK.
I wouldn't want to pay more than $300 for it.

Keep in mind you will probably spend another $100 or more if you service it yourself.
You don't want to skimp on the stylus and belt.
There are many websites with servicing tips for these workhorses.
