I need to remove the faceplate but I don't have any red spring clips visible from the bottom holes.
Perhaps they were removed or broken off at one point in it's life.

All I see is white plastic inside the holes, with a flat piece of white plastic coming down toward the hole, that is parallel to the front edge of the TT. I've tried pushing in a flat screwdriver head perpendicular to the against the flat edge but it doesn't seem to give. I don't know if i should push the head against the flat edge against the TT. I'm afraid of snapping something off.

Any insight greatly appreciated.

On my TT the clips are red — by inserting a screwdriver into the center of the clips spreads them and opens the latches to free the faceplate.
Can’t vouch/confirm if yours will be the same.

thanks - i don't see the red unfortunately. now I do have an MKIII and not a II but I hadn't read that they would be different in this respect.
