Technics SL-D2 alignment issue 2nd null point

Postby SammyMac » 14 Oct 2017 07:17

I managed to get the alignment on my D212 with the Empire 2000E

I used the same protractor ( see photo below)

I used the secondhand Technics headshell thing, I got aligned it to what looked correct. This particular headshell unlike D212 , the rubber washer has worn and not much is left of it, just pieces.

Aligned the first null point , moved stylus across the arc and noticed the stylus sits a bit forward, the closer i get the spindle as in pics.

? maybe i need to pull cartridge back a tiny fraction? OR maybe for the second null point i moved the platter to adjust to it, though didnt seem to with D212?
Thank you Sam

Split the difference on the second null point(pull back slightly) and recheck with first, you will have to turn to align and keep on doing it till it matches(can be frustrating).

Align the cartridge to the outer point.
Move to the inner point, with stylus on point.
If the cartridge is angled toward the center of the platter, move it forward a bit.
If the cartridge is angled back toward the edge of the record, move it back in the headshell.
When the stylus hits both points with proper alignment, you are done.

Cheers,
Alec
Keep them spinning.

Thanks Alec
I did that and I managed to get it on the line for both as i move the stylus along the arc, took most of the day.

Oh yeah and don't try to use the Technics plastic gauge AND a paper protractor - use one or the other - they typically don't provide the same alignment (although they are both 'correct' alignments) and you will be chasing back and forth if you try to make both fit.
