While shopping on craigslist for the city of St Louis, i came across a SL1400mk2 for $100! I had a good friends go and buy it. He shipped it to me and it finally came today. Everything works-auto return, perfect pitch control, dustcover (very good condition). Im very happy the cueing and auto return do not have issues as many have mentioned here.

Hello, I have a SL-1100A and have a question about the cartridge head shell. Will the head shell from a 1200 work? Or will a no name "Universal" head shell work?

Yes, the SL-1200 head shell should work fine.

Hi All,

I've purchased a 1300 Mk1 which will require restoration(My second after rescuing a Dual CS505 from a skip). I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can check what needs doing but one thing I know for certain is that it requires a counterweight.

I've put a WTB in the For Sale section, but I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. Scouring Google the opinions seem to be that 50% say you can use a 1200 counterweight, the other 50% say you can't. Who's right?

I know the 1200 Counterweight is heavier than the 1300 but is it a straight swap?

I've scoured the Vintage Techics site to look at the models released in the same year and they seem to use different weights other than the 1300/1301/1350.

Anyone have the official answer?

Also, is there any preference to headshell other than the offical Technics one? I was looking at an Ortofon SH4 as I'll be reusing a Super OM10 with a weight whilst I test it.

I might put a thread in here when I get it as no doubt I'll need expert advice along the way (It's more complicated than the Dual).

Thanks for looking, hopefully someone can help.

There's nothing wrong with the stock Technics headshell. I've an AT150MLX, Roksan Corus Black and a Linn K9 in some of mine.... Work just fine.

That one obviously has been painted and new lettering has been lasered onto it. It is true, the "10" means black in Technics land and the "00" silver. And not just for the SL-1200 but for the entire Technics line throughout the years. There are some exceptions, namely those with a number lower than 10 in the model, meaning there is no place for the distinction: SL-5, SL-7, SL-D2, SL-Q2, etc etc, and the oddball SL-1900 and SL-2000 turntables.

It might be that there has been a mistake in the factory, which in the case of the SL-1200 and SL-1210 lines would seem highly unlikely to me (however, it has been seen on other turntables like some from Thorens).

eBay UPS disaster on my sl-1700. The corner of the table was damaged as if it were dropped and the shipper didn't secure the tonearm. I'm unable to balance the tonearm and notice a ton of play. Does this screw at the top of the tonearm pivot attach to the piece below it or just sit snug onto it. It appears to have a small hole so if it isn't supposed to screw in it probably wore down during shipping. Repairable or should I buy a tonearm from Panasonic?

What about the SL-1510?
This was just a black version of the 1500

I recently purchased a pair of sl-1710 mk2, i have given them a good cleaning and new belts.
Both now have working cue and autoreturn, but when the arm returns the record keeps spinning.
Also when i press stop the arm doesn't return it just stops the record.
At first i thought this was correct but then i watched this video
https://youtu.be/t1aV3AfhXwk

Any ideas on what i should check, and how much "automation" there should be om the 1700mk2?

I picked up a pretty nice condition SL-1800 Mk2. Speed, tonearm, buttons, lights all work well. The suspension adjustments seem a little tricky to me and it looks like it could use some tuning. I have the 7 mm long socket needed to turn the spring bolts. Are there any guidelines or recommendations to adjust the suspension?
