I bought it at an estate auction and there was no balance counterweight.
I bought one on ebay and it slides on but it does NOT screw on. this is the 3rd weight I bought and they all do the same thing...just slides on and off like a ring too big for your finger!
I am guessing there is something missing from the tonearm that would make the weight SCREW on rather than slide on and off. there is no way to adjust the weight by stopping it at the balance point and setting the correct weight.
Any thoughts whats wrong or maybe a workaround?
I am stumped. anyone that has any technics of this series from sl-1100-1600 should be able to look at theirs and see where the arm has a screw connection of some kind to allow the weight to grab. maybe you can advise.
thanx in advance. :)
I don't know about the SL-1300 specifically but this video shows how it works on the SL-1200MK2, maybe your model is similar?

thanks for the post. I had already seen that video on youtube.
I think that entire mechanism he is talking about is missing from my tonearm.
i put a small screwdriver in the back open hole on my tone arm and pushed it into the open hole on the bottom. there is nothing there at all where that rubber thing etc. is supposed to be.
KINDA WIERD THAT THAT WHOLE INSIDE IS MISSING BUT IT IS.

If you compare the service manuals in the library here you can see which models share the same part number:

Hi there, I am in possession of a wonderful pair of SL-1200MK2 : Manual / Quartz locked / pitch fader / stylus illuminator / adjustable arm height. However, I would like to fix and/or upgrade a few things but I am unfortunately denied access to the library. Can someone help me out with the files here?

Best, Bram

I just discovered there is a really big crack glued together on the bottom base on my SL-1700 mk2. Looks like it has been snapped in two in the past. I don't even know what to think about it, the turntable otherwise works like it should. Interesting though.

Hi,
First I’m sorry for my bad English because I’m a French amatir.
I baught a SL-1400 and I really enjoy it. The sound is incredible in comparison of my Pioneer PL-512.
I need two things.
First the stop button is broken (the plastic part) and I would like to change it. So where I can find one? I don’t really want to buy another turntable for having parts.
And the second thing is more esoteric. This turntable is functioning very well on a Pioneer Sa-608. But on my kenwood there is one way which is really lower. I don’t have this problem with the Pioneer turntable and both phono entrees are functional.
So I’m waiting for your responses and telling you I’ m really proud to be in this forum.

I have just scored this beauty for 365 US dollars and local pick up. She is in good shape and all functions and lights work.

It's my first Direct Drive Turntable.

That's a great deck at a great price, Nigel. Good spot.

Thanks.

As you can see from the photo she needs a good clean up.
