This is precisely the confidence inspiring tutorial I needed to get started on the rehab of a thrashed M3D I just bought last night. I'm completely transitioned from apprehensive to excited! Thank you for your effort.

Thanks very much for the disassembly guide - it gave me the confidence to buy an SL-1200 and clean it up. I'm not done yet by any means but it's playing as I write and sounding excellent - very grateful.

Nice tutorial. Used it to disassemble my Technics SL-1200 black. Put it together in the end. The best thing - no part left or missing and working great. Thanks

great post, just one other thing if you are going to the top re painted make sure you take out the plastic chrome insert that the target lAMP goes though and remove the pitch fader ornament and fill the screw holes where the pcb and plastic top fix. if they get filled with paint it will drive you mad trying to re install the parts i found best way cutting a cotton bud using the stem this fits nicely in to the screw holes and easy to remove once the job has been completed.

Great step by step photos. It's good to see it done before jumping right in there myself. Hopefully I'll custom paint my 1200 some day.

Does anyone know where to get replacement decals for the switches and controls?

Very helpful post. Thanks for taking the time to post such a thorough systematic take-down. =D> Will come in handy to me when/if I ever decide to upgrade the tonearm on my 1210 MkV.

There are a hell of a lot of screws. Make sure you have a few bits of Tupperware or bowls or whatever to put them in as you go. Also if you have a digital camera, take quite a few shots as you go. In particular, after you have taken some screws out take a shot of the TT with the screws lying next to where you have taken them from. When it comes to reassembly you can make sure you are using the correct screws.
