Technics belt drive motor oil ?

is it necessary to oil the motor on a belt-drive turntable ( or spindle ) ? I have a Technics sl-b350 from 1984.
I had to use electronics spray cleaner - to get the motor running up to speed .
Strobe shows the speed is almost perfectly steady - but not quite .
didn't see anything in the manual about oil .

I've used the Zoom Spout Turbine Oil for years now without an issue, after servicing hundreds of turntables.
Available from most hardware stores.

Sewing machine oil is also very good.

I posted a response here earlier but which seems to have disappeared into the ether. To recap, be sure that the "cleaner" you use also has a lubricant included, as most described cleaners are solvent heavy, and will remove existing lubricant from gears, sliders, switches, etc. Separate cleaning and re-lubricating is preferred. As Alec mentioned, a drop or two of quality machine oil, such as made by 3 in 1 is fine for the spindle bearing, every 1500 plays or so. White lithium grease or quality silicone greases are fine for levers and friction surfaces generally. In all cases, less is more to avoid spreading lubricant and possible contamination of adjacent surfaces and components. Generally, try to avoid petroleum based lubes on plastic surfaces such as gears, and eschew WD-40 completely, as it has been known to dissolve many fragile parts in electronics, primarily being a cleaner and water displacement agent. Hope this is of help...

Note that the all-purpose 3-in-1 is not a good choice, but their #20 machine oil for electric motors is.

Alec

Thank you Alec! That nagged at me when I typed it, but could not remember the difference between specs. The easy answers can often allude one.

Thank You ! . Turntable strobe speed is holding steady now . I used "3-in-1 Silicone" oil . Put 1 drop at the base of the spindle and one drop in the hole on the bottom of the motor . I also removed the pitch control , sprayed it with CRC Contact Cleaner and then added 1 drop of 3-in-1 silicone oil .
