RGS0010 vs RGS0008

Postby ohlins » 05 May 2018 05:19

Hi,

I noted that the 0010 has a smaller diameter than then 0008, which is 290 mm vs 293 mm ....

so if I were to use the 0008 for the MK2, the outer edge will cover the raised lip of the platter .... is this supposed to be correct?

The original MK2 mat SFTG172-01 is approx 293mm and does sit on the raised outer edge of the platter by design.

I haven't directly compared this to the later RGS0008 or RGS0010.

I believe it's likely the thinner RGS0008 was designed to be used in conjunction with a slip mat . In any case if you are not a DJ and mainly use the SL-1200 for listening to music then I would use the thicker RGS00010 mat .

Yes this is true for M3D, MK5, M5G etc. but the newer GAE, G and GR are also supplied with this same mat.

Yes but because the platter on the new SL-1200s is better dampened you would most likely not get any sonic benefits from using the thicker mat anyway . On the old SL-1200s you did however .

Does that mean the SFTG172-01 is the same part as RGS0008? Or is it RGS0010?

RGS0010 was the replacement for SFTG172-01 and similar spec I think.
RGS0008 is thinner than either of those.

I bought a RGS0010 and will report on how it fits the platter of my SL-1700MK2 probably this weekend.

I can tell you that the RGS0010 fits the platter of my SL-1700mk2 perfectly, just barely inside the raised lip on the outer rim of the platter.
