1200 rubber base scratch repair

Postby usamike10 » 21 Apr 2018 20:43

I've got a couple of deep scratches on the front of my rubber base from the previous owner using a travel case.
I've been searching for a solution on the net, found a couple products that might fill in the scratches. 'Bondo flexible bumper and part repair' and 'J-B weld Black Silicone Sealant and Adhesive'.
Has anyone tried either of these products on the base or could recommend something that works well on the rubber base?
I will probably have to paint it to with a flexible paint afterwards anyway since it will probably stand out.

Hi,
why not just buy an used spare? It will be cheaper and much easier.
They pop up very often on the big auction site... At least here in Europe.

Ciao.

I’ve looked at them, gonna try to repair this first. I’ve ordered Bondo flexible bumper repair for $15, will see how it does.

The scratches filled in nicely with the Bondo.

I hit it with a couple coats of vinyl paint.
Good enough..you can only see the repair at a certain angle in the glare.

Isn't it nice to fix something deemed not worth it. Great looking repair! And it cost a fraction of what a replacement part would have set you back. Treat yourself with some fine records you've wanted to buy.

Thanks, it was also a benefit to keep the original base for the tags and serial number. The top was a bit rough also, I’ve ordered a vinyl skin to cover in place of repainting, supposed to receive it today, I hope it looks good.

Speaking of fixing up damaged audio, I restored a pair of JBL speakers this winter, very rewarding. Here’s a link if you want to see them. http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php? ... re.819273/

It’s back together and with vinyl skin. Waiting on a new dust cover, I ordered the clear Reloop cover for $40.

Nice, but I hope the glamor shot is only that, because using a turntable ON top of a receiver is not good sense.
