This isn’t something I would automatically assume is a manufacturing QC problem, it is very well possible the platters or spindles are being damaged in shipping or from rough handling. A very tiny dent in the center of the platter can have a large effect on how true the platter spins.

That's a possibilty yes . But it's certainly very annoying on a table of this price point .

My SL1200GR has the similar problem and I returned it.
I used an indicator to check and found the following.
'Wobblin' on the silver machined surface was 0.30mm
Spindle tip run out at 0.025mm.
The TT ended up returned to Panasonic Canada and they said they would send it to Japan for inspection.
I ended up bought the G model.

Is the GR packaged differently to the G?

The heavier G platter has polystyrene & card protection as per mine below...

At the price they go for, ANY wobble is totally inexcusable!

Thankfully, mine's OK. No platter wobble at all.

I have zero expectation that a record is either flat or has the center hole exactly where it should be ( decades spent in the record biz)- but TT platters need to be flat- I have run into a number of matts though that are anything but flat -usually putting them between flat panels with a little weight on 'em for a few days cures this. It's a bigger issue when the manufactorer decides to glue the matt to the platter's top.
But like everybody else - bought new -return it for repair/replacement.

Seems from what I have read only the more expensive G model claims to be hand assembled . So my guess is that the GR model is being assembled in the same way the old SL-1200s were which also sometimes had the wobbly platter issue . Still I agree at the price point of the new ones not acceptable .

I bought a week ago a technics SL 1200 GR. I just saw your post. . I was watching videos of technics SL 1200 GR on youtube. In this case, it is true that it is an important wobble i think it moves very slightly on all turntables GR .I think there is a maximum tolerance and it is difficult that the platter is completely perfect.

I'll upload you a video of my GR in the evening, tell me what you think.

I still have the right to return to the store this week, but I do not think it's abnormal

Totally disagree. Any turntable priced above $500 should have no discernable wobble.

Not sure what exactly is being described as the issue with this particular new model Technics - but the new models don't cog -end of statement.

No Technics should wobble or cog.
