I think is always better get heavier headshell than use counterweight...

I use a Zupreme Ultimate headshell with my Hana SL. It's a great combo with the added benefit of being able to change Azimuth. For those running a Hana SL, curious what settings on your SL and phono stage? I'm less than 30 hrs in so running VTF 2g, A/S 2.0, Tonearm height 1. My Phono stage allows variable impedance so I'm running 500 ohms, I did try 1k, and even plugged it into the MM input which was surprisingly ok!

Reason I went for the Bronze rather than the Blue is the upgrade path, something I really like about Ortofon. When I wear out this Bronze stylus, I'll be fitting the cartridge with a Black. Just had a quick read through this thread, great to hear that the arm won't let down a Black stylus.

You’re gonna love the black. On my modified 1210 m5g, I had the bronze and was really impressed, wanted to see if I could get more detail on the live albums and upgraded to the Quintet Black S (Nude Shibata diamond stylus, Saphire cantilever). Mounted to Ortofon LH4000 Headshell with LW800S leads. Absolutely love this setup. A/B’d against friends McIntosh mc10 with stock cartridge and even he had to admit it outperformed his set-up!

Recently mounted a VM540 and a mono VM610 on two original Technics headshells. They sound extremely well on my 1210mkII. I considered the MC variants AT offers for only a fraction more money, but after listening to the VM series and reading several reviews, I quickly made up my mind. An additional consideration making this decision, is my conviction a MM cart makes for a better match with the SL1200 series tonearm rather than a MC cart. Perhaps in the future I'll upgrade to MC on a Rega or Thorens or something, but for now I'm very satisfied and able to enjoy some true Hi-Fi both in mono and stereo. I listen a of jazz and some of the original fifties and early sixties RVG records I'm fortunate to have in my collection, sound awesome!

Mine is a 1200G
I have a Nagaoka MP300H on it.
Also a Goldring 2200 with Ortofon SH4 with a 4 gram Shim.
And a AT95E with the original headshell.
And a 103R is coming soon.
So far I like the MP300 the best. Very smooth, details and overall frequency response evenness.
AT95E is very good too. Very musical.

Why do you feel that MM carts are better for the SL-1200s tone arms than MC ? I have an MM cart myself , I'm just curious .

There's no such thing as an arm better for MM, MI or MC.

Given the fact that the 1200 is favoured by DJ's and their cartridges are all MM and low compliance, you could draw wrong conclusions.

imho, the Technics arm is not the best friend of high compliance cartridges.

Well while I'm sure some MCs would sound fine with the SL-1200 I'm not a fan of them because you have to replace the whole cartridge when the stylus wears out/becomes damaged .

If you don't mix cats/kids/booze with record playing, a cartridge lasts a long time...

lol no yeah they do last a long time , just saying while I'm comfortable doing most of the set up for a new cartridge I'm not very keen on the alignment so the less I have do that , the better .

I started with Shure M97xE on my 1200GR then shifted to Denon DL 103R and now back to Shure M97xE. I seem to have found a sweet spot for my Shure but when I can muster enough patience I will try the Denon again. I was unsuccessful in taming sibilance with the Denon.
