New AT LP120X TT

Revision of the popular AT LP120usb. Differences I noticed-
1.) It's 6 pounds lighter than prior, but still 17lbs
2.) Has new improved anti skate control
3.) Has a new DC servo direct drive motor
4.) Some things have moved around a bit on the deck.
5.) Comes with the new HS6 headshell and VM95e cart.
7.) Detachable RCA connectors.

Surely a new Hanpin TT, but still looks like a great value for a starter TT. My 120 has performed very well over the years.

I have the original AT-LP-120, and it has performed flawlessly for me since Day 1. Coming up on four years now.

Does your antiskate work. AT admitted that prior to 1/2017 production, it didn't.

No problems here. I think it is effective for VTF's under 2 grams. But even with a Denon DL-103(2.5g), I did not experience any channel imbalance or distortion.

I'm not sure why they made it lighter (got rid of the steel plate in the bottom, perhaps?), but otherwise it seems like they made some good refinements to the original design.

There's also a new sibling called the LP140XP. This one weighs 22 lbs and it does not have an internal preamp — which will be a welcome change for some people — and it comes with the XP3 DJ cartridge (which may be a downside for some, but you can always remove the stylus and put one of the new VM95-series styli on it).

Mine does, but at about 1/2 of the tracking weight (IE: 1.75 grams TF, about .8-9 on the antiskate dial).

LP140XP - says it has adjustable output, which could be useful for some people. But this sentence is a bit contradictory...

"Designed to connect to components with a dedicated phono input, the turntable comes with a detachable dual RCA output cable and is equipped with a phono pre-amplifier that supplies a strong 5.5 mV output. "

I don't see the words adjustable output on AT's web page for the LP140XP. Can you point me to where you found that?

AT's site makes it pretty clear that it can only be connected to a phono input, which implies there's no internal preamp. It also says that the turntable comes with a ground wire, which is not something they've ever included with their turntables that have built-in preamps.

I thought I read that skimming promo for this 'table. #-o Now I can't find it, so we'll call that deleted.

The other blurb was from American Musical Supply. Maybe best to stick to A-T's own copy.

Plus this one still has the forward/reverse feature. They probably left the steel plate in this one too for better stability. Certainly meant for DJ's. $400 price point. Probably replaces the AT1240.

There is another link inside this one for the O Ring tweak as well. I haven't tried it yet. Heading to the hardware store tonight! :D

Try to sell a decent vintage DD turntable on the web and it will go in few hours. Try to sell Audio-technika and other similar chinese turntables on the web and you will have to wait for some months without selling it. Thay says enough.

The 1240 hasn't been replaced. It's been updated as the 1240XP and now comes with the XP5 cartridge.

Upped the price to $500 too.

The original 1240 is $450 and it doesn't come with a cartridge. The XP5 cartridge is $80 by itself. For people who DJ, the 1240XP will be a good deal -- it'll be like getting a $30 discount on the XP5 cartridge. :)
