Audio Technica - LP120 hum in phono input, low signal in tape or cd input

Post by gavri7 » 14 Mar 2019 12:46

Hi,
Trying to play records and I get this insane hum when using the PHONO input in my receiver (I've tried using PHONO and Line modes on the turntable) sounds like an issue that a ground wire would solve but obviously this turntable doesn't have one..
When connecting it to the analog input (CD) I get a very week signal and can't hear anything.
The turntable is new, so is the cartridge..
I was using a different amp before and didn't have this problem when connecting it to the AUX input..
Thanks in advance!

It would help more if you would provide information about all the equipment involved.
Vague descriptions arent' much to go on.

That number means nothing, even a search doesn't give a clue.
MAKE? -BRAND?
Proper full Model Number?

Most likely the cables from the turntable are bad.
Replace them.

This is unfortunately a major flaw of the LP120, it has no external ground wire. The only way I was able to fix the hum on these turntables was to add an external grounding wire to it.

If it is still possible, I recommend returning this turntable and getting something else. While it is possible to fix most of it's many shortcomings, it just requires way more work than should be necessary for a new turntable.

I'm sorry but you bought a junk turntable. I would get a refund if purchased less than 30 days ago. If no refund then put it on ebay. There will be a bidding war among millennials who don't know anything about turntables. In other words cut your losses

Have you try by warding the turntable from the amplifier?
