Pink Floyd - The Wall

I struggled a bit with a thin, anemic sound. I had to play the first disc twice to get acceptable results. The high end sort of gets lost in my room:

Length: 13'2" approx.
Width: 12+ ft approx. (can extend to the kitchen)
Height (roof): 7+ ft approx.

I have some newspapers sitting on the ledge of the fireplace (which we never use) and a few couch pillows behind the speakers (more or less). When listening to my stereo, the TV is directly behind the left speaker. It's a 17-going-on-18-year-old Sanyo CWM-460 mini component stereo.

My room has a lot of brick and some glass and wood. Carpet. My room extends into the dining room/ kitchen area, which has stone tile floor. My window curtains are almost always closed.

Thank you for any advice you can give me. Edifier 1280T bookshelf speakers are on my Christmas list (the best we can afford atm). When I can afford them, I want Klipsch R-820F towers.

In many cases it depends on mastering of a CD. Majority of new european reissues are not the best in sounding, too harsh for ears and some sibilance is present. But older CD`s from 90`s are too flat. With Pink Floyd only the last parlophone remaster is very good. You will have to pay more for good sound and look at CD Japan, what they have to offer. From SHM-CD, Blu-spec CD to standard discs (which are also always better sounding than other versions).

I have this on Vinyl. For me that is enough because it sounds absolutely incredible.

I have always listened to a lot of folk music and for many years vinyl was the best (and in many cases the only) source of great recordings. I have a number from Vanguard, Folkways, Columbia and others. By the 80s, however, many of these sources dried up and I had to content myself with finding used copies of the recordings I wanted.

Somewhat ironically, this incredibly great collection of artists from the "Folk Revival" (1950 to 1970) came out almost 20 years ago from Rhino (which started out as Rhino Records!). It's a 3 CD set of 75 original recordings and I have never seen it on vinyl. It has long become one of my favourite folk "albums". :)

That's Ramblin' Jack Elliott (in Washington Square Park) on the cover.

I have also old CBS record, pressed in Holland for UK market. But it is worn out (was a gift from a friend as a second-hand record). New 2017 Sony reissue on vinyl I won`t buy, because it is bad remaster, but Back on black versions are not available anymore.
