New DAC ? - Chord 2Qute ?

Postby Hawkeye62 » 13 Jan 2018 17:29

I'm looking to update my DAC for streaming Spotify and hi res audio files.
I'm currently using the DAC on my Marantz SA8005 which is very good but it does have a laid back shut in presentation (the Marantz sound i guess).

I'm very tempted by the rave reviews of the Chord DACS and looking at a Chord 2Qute as my next upgrade.

Any views on how much of an improvement this would be on the Marantz DAC ? Anyone heard the 2Qute out there ?

Thanks

What's special about it? Value for money seems low and the I/O flexibility limited.

Rave reviews on multiple sites and forums - I think it's a taste of high end ?
Price has just been reduced because of introduction of a new Chord DAC (Qutest), and its much cheaper than Hugo/Dave !
Inputs and outputs look ok for me

I'd also be looking at the iFi iDAC2. I don't own one, haven't heard one but it also gets rave reviews. I have their iPhono phono stage and it is phenomenal for the size/price.

I think the Chord 2Qute would be brilliant if you find the Marantz sound too laid back. I heard the 2Qute as well as the Mojo and they both have excellent punch, speed and clarity without harshness. The FPGA technology that Chord uses is very unique and totally different from the Delta Sigma chips that most manufacturers use. It is also compatible with almost all high resolution formats commonly available.

I was very close to buying one myself but eventually went for a Schiit model as it was just slightly more organic sounding and a bit cheaper.
