Large collection for sale in Michigan

Post by fitness1 » 25 Apr 2015 23:04

This is my first post here, but I can offer tons of references for any prospective buyers. First, I'm Fitness1 on The Acoustic Guitar Forum where I have over 18k posts and was once a moderator. I'm 6strings-14clubs on Ebay with over 600 all positives since '99. Feel free to ask me anything via PM or email - I'll do everything I can to ease your mind.

Now that we have that out of the way :) I ran a record store from '79 to '87. When I left to go on to a real job, I had about 3200 lps. Over the last 28 years I've slimmed down and sold all the collectible rock and roll, colored vinyl etc, etc, and only kept the best music - stuff that I'd planned on keeping for my "rocking chair" days. This is mostly jazz, folk, reggae, bluegrass, new age and some country.

Probably 95% of these recordings were played once or not at all, then shelved about 1991 or so. The were always stored properly, many in plastic outer bags, some are still even sealed. The table they were played on was a JVC QL-50 with a Grace 707 and Ruby Dynavector cartridge (later a much less expensive Grado) and Petersen interlinks. Discwashwer products used per directions. Some were "Last'ed" and VRP'ed. Some also have Discwasher VRP inner sleeves.

Bottom line is these records are about as clean as you will find - there are a few that I noted in the list that were used when I got them, and are so noted. If you have any questions about a specific recording, feel free to ask and I'll tell you honestly about the condition. Also, a few are autographed as noted.

I'm in a situation at 53 where my parents aren't doing well, and I'm going to be moving my home business into a commercial space and spending the nights at my parents very small home so I can help take care of them. I'll have space in my office for quite a bit, but the LP's (and table if the records sell) may be casualties if I can get a reasonable price for them.

I think there are somewhere between 350 and 400 titles (this is based on measuring a foot of records then multiplying by the total footage) If I could get 600 for them, I'd probably consider letting them go. Anything less and it just isn't worth it. Obviously shipping these would be prohibitive, so pickup at my home in Midland Michigan.

Not sure what the word capacity of a post is, but I'll start the list in this one and may have to add them in other posts. Multiple recordings by an artist are divided by a slash.
I also have an extra 40-50 plastic outer bags I'll throw in.

Thanks
Todd

Here's the table for those who may be interested. You certainly won't find a vintage table in any better shape than this one. I bet I've played about 10 lps on it since 1991 or so. Pardon the flash pics as my listening room is completely dark (on purpose!) If the records sell I'd probably take 400 for the table. If someone wants both, I'd do a little better, of course.

Just to be clear - I'm not interested in parting these out or shipping. I just don't have the time or energy right now.

I know it's very unlikely to sell all of them, but I'm just giving it a shot. As I just told one member who had inquired, maybe deep down I'm hoping they don't sell - kind of feels like selling a child after all the time and money I put into my collection back in the day

Please pardon my oversight - I just recalculated the number of titles and it appears it's probably closer to 325. I was going from memory on the number!

With this in mind I will lower my price to 500.00 FIRM!

Been almost 4 years since I've considered this sale - I've decided I'd do 400 for the records and 350 for the JVC QL-50 or 700 for both. I've seen the table sell for 600 itself recently.
