Yamaha NS-200M restored & veneered

Post by KrautNotRice » 11 Dec 2018 00:25

1970s vintage Yamaha NS-200M 10" 3 way monitors.
Titanium dome tweeters, titanium semi-dome midranges, paper woofers.
Very solid & heavy cast aluminum baskets on all drivers.
Quality internal wiring from the factory and all soldered connections.
The NS-200M only came in black vinyl from the factory.

Freshly restored with all new Audyn Q4 caps, the factory crossovers are point to point wiring.
New gold plated 5 way inputs replaced the spring loaded terminals.
Detailed the drivers and cleaned them to the best of my ability.
Mounting screws polished to expose the copper.
Veneered the cabs in real wood cherry with an oiled & waxed finish yielding a matte sheen. No plasticky feel, just natural wood that is easy to maintain down the road.
The backs were not finished from the factory, but I took the liberty to veneer them as well.
The grain wraps around the sides and tops continuously.
Grille mounting holes shaved. THERE ARE NO GRILLES.
All domes / cones / dust caps / surrounds are in good shape.
All 8 factory gaskets present and in good shape.
Serial #s are very close:
124236 L
124262 R

The NS-200M have warm sounding treble, not bright like most other Yamaha speakers.
The mids are creamy and smooth, not a hint of shoutiness or harshness.
The bass is very punchy, dynamic, dry and accurate. No mid-bass hump, but also not lacking in any way.

Being 40 years old, there is minor age-consistent wear on the driver mounting flanges, like small spots / pitting.
Overall very nice sounding speakers that present well.
Does not come with grilles, but if that's a deal breaker I can make new grilles with the new owner's choice of fabric at an additional cost.

Located in 30909 Augusta, GA
Willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet a buyer half way somewhere, say within 150 miles or so, which would include ATL, Charlotte, Charleston, Savannah, Jax, etc.
Shipping is possible. I can pack them very well in separate boxes and ship at cost, supplies would be on me.
I would however insist on packing the woofers in a separate box to avoid potential shipping damage.
Thank you for looking.

Wow, those came out great! Very nice job! I wish I had the money and wasn't 1,000 miles away.
