Acutex 315 STR replacement

Postby AWALK60 » 06 Jul 2013 02:19

Hello, I have recently put together a system to play my vinyl after a 25 year hiatus and this is my 1st post. I have a Sansui 4000 ,Dynaco A25s and JVC QL-A51 with Acutex 315 STR cartridge. I am quite happy with the sound but have no idea how much life the stylus has left, I have read that stylus are no longer available for this cartridge so my question is what cartridge would be a good replacement with similar sound quality in the $120 or less range any advice would be much appreciated. Thank You

Would you mind a slight downgrade? If not, how about: http://www.ebay.it/itm/TESTINA-ACUTEX-M-312-III-STR-PUNTINA-PER-GIRADISCHI-INTROVABILE-STYLUS-FOR-NUOVA-/261229491269?pt=Altro_Audio_da_Casa&hash=item3cd27db445?

On a second thought, that might be not quite compliant enough for the comparatively light arm of your JVC. So perhaps you'd better go for something like the Audio Technica AT120E instead...

Thanks for your input Manfred,I'll put the AT120E on my short list. I am also considering the Shure M97XE as it fits my budget a bit better but I would rather pay a little more and have a cartridge I am happy with for the next few years. If anyone has insight on these or another cart. in my budget for a JVC QL-A51 it would be welcome.
