Ortofon 2M: Red vs Blue - or Denon DL-110?

Monet - MonetRi from Youtube?

Needledoctor.com and LPGear.com have the Denon DL-110 for US$139.99, not sure what that works out to in Euros. LPGear I know ships internationally, as they only charge about 9$ to ship to Canada, and I think they have worldwide options.

I'm thinking at this point of going with the Denon and keeping the Technics. The Dual is a nice table but the ULM arm is almost as limiting as a P-Mount arm(almost). Sure it can be adapted to use 1/2" carts, but they'd have to all be high compliance to sound right. At least with the Technics, the medium mass arm (11g+cart & headshell) allows for more options, and even theoretically some real Moving Coil stuff later on. The Dual is relatively cheap so I might pick it up anyway to tinker with.

Anyway, if the Denon DL-110 sounds as good as the 2M Blue then buying it instead (for $60 less) wouldn't be a mistake, especially when buying a new DL-110 costs less than the replacement Blue stylus. Seems like a no brainer at this point.

Yes, i see now... but keep wondering why is it so expensive here...
Anyway, if DL-110 is cheaper than 2M Blue, i am not surprised the fact it is so much beloved...

I have never had any problems with IGD or tracking with a DL-110.

Cheers,
Alec

In my humble opinion, if you´re somehow looking for something audiophile...

The 2M Ortofon series, only makes sense with Bronze or Black models!

So forget the Red and Blue models...

Cheers!

Thanks everyone for the kind advice. I've decided to go with the Denon DL-110, and placed my order last night. I will post more when I get it, but I do feel that, with the high number of praises here for it, I've made a good choice here.

Thanks!

maddmaxstar,

I was hoping you would follow your initial instinct, which seemed in tune with the Ortofon Blue. And this hobby gets to a point where personal preference is BIG, more when it is informed with long experience.

Even though the DL-110 IS excellent, it may not meet your vision. TRrusting all will be OK . Please post your impressions 8) ,

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I am running mine on a Technics SL-1200 based on the advice of many who claimed they were a good match; I imagine your Technics arm is very similar to mine. But just to be clear, I have been playing around with different loads (36K, 32K, and 8K ohms). The difference between 47K and 36 and 32K is very subtle but the 8K load is a lot more apparent. The main difference is that the bass output is much higher and imaging improves ever so slightly. I think the standard 47K is still good though. People have said the cart can sound shrill with that load but I never experienced any such thing, even right out of the box. Let us know what you think.
