I like the Denon 110 a lot, have one on my Technics 1200. However, I wouldn't recommend it for the Pioneer.
I have a Pioneer 41 which I am pretty sure is similar to what OP has. I run a Pioneer PLC9 on it, the cartridge it shipped with, with a new Transcriber stylus. It works well with the heavy cartridge and has a nice, smooth sound, excellent separation. For most records, I prefer it to the Technics 1200 with the DL 110.
You can find them for around $60 on ebay. Yeah, I know it is an ancient (40 years old?) cartridge and yeah, it is conical stylus equipped, but it really sounds pretty good on these old wooden stables with the straight, no anti skate tone arms.
Of course, all bets are off if you don't have that original heavy headshell, the one with one knurled screw on top.
