wTB: Stylus for Audio Technica AT15SS

Postby Dirty1 » 22 May 2012 23:30

I have an Audio Technica AT15SS cartridge with a broken stylus. I am hoping that with a little luck I will be able to find a replacement. If you have one or know of an OEM product that may work, please let me know.

Thank you.

Can only find these
http://www.lpgear.com/product/ATN15SS.html seems to be the correct one exactly, but pricey..
http://www.turntableneedles.com/Needle- ... p_925.html same for this one, although slightly cheaper

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDIO-TECHNICA- ... 1e6ac35e05 seems to be one that would work, but not exactly the correct one..
Plannar3, Technoarm (A), Kontrapunkt A, Michell Dual mono phonostage, Rotel pre, Rotel amp, B&W CDM 9NTs
Pioneer PL-12D refurbished, Rotel phonostage, Rotel pre/amp, B&W CDM 9NTs.

Do not buy the last one; it's not a shibata diamond.
Yes, original are not cheap but are great (I have an AT20SLa)

Thanks for the replies and advice on the stylus. It sure is pricey...!!

Before I spend that kind of money on the stylus, how can I be sure the cartridge is still good?? It's been sitting for over 20 years. I would hate to spend that much on the stylus only to find the cartridge is somehow bad. Do they even go bad??? I don't know...

Thanks again

They usually last forever, but can be tested with a digital VOM (R+L-coils)~500 ohms(?).
A chaper stylus that is 99% of a AT15SS wil be the Akai RS-180. May need a small knife-cut on plastic-edges to seat properly.
